MARSHALL COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY HOURS TO CHANGE IN SEPTEMBER

The Marshall County Board of Trustees recently voted to make changes to the library’s hours.

As of September 3, the library’s summer hours will run from Memorial Day to Labor Day. In addition, regular hours at the Calvert City and Hardin branches will change. Both branches will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Hardin branch will be closed on Friday.

Regular hours for every other day of the week at each library branch will remain the same.

“The library has looked at traffic patterns and usage numbers and found that the hours we have been keeping were not the best use of library resources,” said library director Tammy Blackwell. “These new hours will allow us to continue to meet the demand for library services by placing staff where the need is the strongest.”

In the summer, the library sees a lot of activity in the evening from families looking to complete the summer reading program and attend evening events. Once school starts back, the evening demand diminishes as students begin participating in sports and extracurricular activities.

“Library services don’t end when the buildings are closed,” Blackwell said. “Patrons can use after-hours pickup or one of our digital services to access materials, and all branches are able to provide after-hours access to their meeting room spaces.”
